On Four Dimensional N = 1 Type

چکیده
We consider four dimensional N = 1 supersymmetric Type I compactifications on toroidal orbifolds T /Γ. In particular, we focus on the Type I vacua which are perturbative from the orientifold viewpoint, that is, on the compactifications with well defined world-sheet expansion. The number of such models is rather constrained. This allows us to study all such vacua. This, in particular, involves considering compactifications with non-trivial NS-NS antisymmetric tensor backgrounds. We derive massless spectra for these models, and also compute superpotentials. We review the reasons responsible for such a limited number of perturbative Type I compactifications on toroidal orbifolds (which include Abelian as well as non-Abelian cases). As an aside, we generalized the recent work on large N gauge theories from orientifolds to include a non-Abelian orbifold. This also provides an important independent check for perturbative consistency of the corresponding Type I compactification. Typeset using REVTEX E-mail: [email protected]

Type IIB Orientifolds, F-theory, Type I Strings on Orbifolds and Type I - Heterotic Duality
We consider six and four dimensional N = 1 supersymmetric orientifolds of Type IIB compactified on orbifolds. We give the conditions under which the perturbative world-sheet orientifold approach is adequate, and list the four dimensional N = 1 orientifolds (which are rather constrained) that satisfy these conditions. We argue that in most cases orientifolds contain non-perturbative sectors that...
متن کاملRotated Branes and N = 1 Duality
We consider configurations of rotated N S-branes leading to a family of four-dimensional N = 1 super-QCD theories, interpolating between four-dimensional analogues of the Hanany-Witten vacua, and the Elitzur-Giveon-Kutasov configuration for N = 1 duality. The rotation angle is the N = 2 breaking parameter, the mass of the adjoint scalar in the N = 2 vector multiplet. We add some comments on the...
متن کاملM 5 brane and four dimensional N = 1 theories I
Four dimensional N = 1 theories are engineered by compactifying six dimensional (2, 0) theory on a Riemann surface with regular punctures. A generalized Hitchin’s equation involving two Higgs fields is proposed as the BPS equation for N = 1 compactification. The puncture is interpreted as the singular boundary condition of this equation, and regular puncture is shown to be labeled by a nilpoten...
متن کاملType IIB Colliding Plane Waves
Four-dimensional colliding plane wave (CPW) solutions have played an important role in understanding the classical non-linearities of Einstein’s equations. In this note, we investigate CPW solutions in 2n+2–dimensional Einstein gravity with a n+1-form flux. By using an isomorphism with the four-dimensional problem, we construct exact solutions analogous to the Szekeres vacuum solution in four d...
متن کاملReducing the Heterotic Supergravity on nearly-Kähler coset spaces
We study the dimensional reduction of the N = 1, ten-dimensional Heterotic Supergravity to four dimensions, at leading order in α′, when the internal space is a coset manifold. Then we apply the formalism using as internal manifolds all possible six-dimensional nonsymmetric coset spaces, namely G2/SU(3), Sp4/(SU(2)× U(1))non−max and SU(3)/U(1)× U(1), which moreover are nearly-Kähler manifolds a...
